So with all the entertainment value my last shed move had on here, Iā€™m starting another thread on the current shed move from my Grandparents farm (now my Uncleā€™s)

Pad prep is coming along.
Still have to dig ā€œrat wallsā€ then plastic, wire mesh & rebar.

This is the shed Iā€™m moving 17 miles from its current location to mine. I will lift it, install three 6ā€ I Beams, remove one end wall and place it on a large gooseneck for the trip. Only lifting it 16" or so, end wall will be removed and set on trailer with 14"ish clearance from roadway. I will be framing in a full door on the end wall for open access once rebuilt.

11ā€™4ā€ x 24ā€™6ā€

It will then get metal siding and the roof painted.

All that work and then having to frame a wall and reroof? I think I'd maybe disassemble and then build a new shed.

But hey, if you are down for the work, that's all that matters

Fantastic!Anything bought looks like bought,nothing can match an old farm shed especially if you are part of its history.

My grandmother used this building as her chicken coop back when I was a kid, I remember gathering eggs with her fondly.

She is one of the many in my family that instilled in me the desire to save older things.
She's also the one that I promised I would not tear down the last shed I moved on our property.

As many have pointed out this is not a "free" endeavor, but much cheaper than building a new equal building.

What is a "rat wall"?

I am on your side OP, I like the shed too. I'd try to move it if I was offered it. I hope the move goes well!

Chop out the end wall, run some 2x12's across, jack it up, back in a trailer, and pull it away.

I could maybe understand the concern if it was 20'+ wide but even that can be diy if you want to

I remember a buddy sold a used prefab hog nursery. About 16' wide and 30'+ long.

The guys that bought it came up with a welder and a decent front wheel assist tractor to pull it home. Welded axles under it and a tongue on the front.

Think they had to pull it about 75 miles home. I remember they had to cross the Missouri river and were planning to go through Sioux City at like 5 am Sunday morning.

That is what we call the dug ā€œfooterā€ that is around the perimeter of the building. Prevents ā€œratsā€ from burrowing under edge of slab. I wanted it 16ā€ deep but the debris from the old barns that were demoā€™d on the property started @ 12ā€.

Slab & Rat wall poured in one pour.

Moved into the driveway this afternoon. Ready for a 6am Sunday move to my place.

Donā€™t know how to add a video, tractor handled it perfectly through the bean field for a short 180 degree maneuver.

It's not easy someone took a shed 12x20 off that was in the way of the new garage I built. They thought they were going to just screw some boards and throw some metal beams across it to sit on the trailer like above and then cutoff the post used as the footers and load it on a trailer in about a day or two. It took 5 grown men, 2 pickup trucks, a wench, a backhoe, and a full week to move it. Of course mine was a bit of a big pain because it was hand built and they had used multiple pieces of 4x4 lumber sunk about 3 feet into the ground and encased in concrete as the main frame of the shed instead of building it on a slab or cinder block. No one realized it till they started trying to move it and hit concrete with their saws. Then when they finally got the post cut out of the ground it was so heavy the backhoe they were using to lift it up and push it into the trailer actually lifted off the ground. I think they ended up have to run a block and tackle system between two trucks to pull the shed on the trailer while they used the backhoe just to keep it balanced.

Other than the sill plates being too far gone to reuse, no surprises so far.
Bonus is I will be able to add height to the building easily now when we remove it from the trailer. Plusā€™s I wonā€™t have to lowered it off trailer. If anything I will raise it another 6-8ā€ to get an additional two foot of height.

When I built my garage, the old one car 12' x 24' garage had to go. I found a local company that specialized in reselling old one car garages like mine, people would buy and use them for storage sheds, etc. They moved it in much the same way - jacked it up, bolted in some crossmembers, backed a flatbed truck in, and let it down on the truck. Then, they came back late at night and drove it away.

Funny story - some time later I was talking to a young guy who lived at a rental house at the end of the block. The night my old garage was moved he had been out at the bars, and had just come home and was sitting on the couch watching TV. He heard a sound, looked out the window and saw my garage moving slowly past. At first he thought he'd had way too much to drink and was hallucinating. :)
