Another Shop Heat Unit Thread

Ok, so i think i have about read every post about shop heat units on this forum and others. The problem i have is venting. I originally wanted to go horizontal but because of my sofits being about 9' from ground and 1.5' overhang i think it will look ugly, and very expensive compared to vertical venting. So, to avoid cutting a hole in my steel roof i was thinking about the following...

Vent vertical:confused through ceiling into attic, horizontal out from attic. That way i can have the exhaust up higher and still not have to cut a hole in the roof. I havent read anything of this being done.

Is this ok? Would i be able to use the cheaper B vent for this as apposed to the stainless needed for horizontal venting? The wall i will exit in the attic is just the outer steel, would not have to worry about combustibles.

I would just go straight up and use a Dektite rubber boot to seal it.

I think if its possible to go out the rear wall inside the attic it would be A: easier and b: far less prone to water infiltration down the road. Just haven't been able to find any info on it. Whether it would be considered vertical venting or if it would be horizontal, and which codes to follow.

Straight up is easier and better for draft. Use the correct pipe, good sealant with Dektite rubber boot and you will have decades of use with no leaks.

I had my Hot Dawg vented up into the attic and out the gable end as you are thinking. Check with the heater for the maximum horizontal run; and be sure to any 90 fittings as each one may reduce the maximum horizontal run.

Are you able to just use B vent or does it require the special stainless b vent?

They used B vent on the inside and to the concentric box and then stainless through the concentric box to the outside.
