new here. cool board. love the swap meets for tools.
my father was a heavy equipment mechanic. his philosophy on tools was:
"if it ain't snap-on, it ain't ****!".
but he also had other brands too, which he'd loan instead of the snap on, but better believe he'd come and get them too.
he left my mom in '86. pretty much skipped out on my brother and me at that time too. he passed in 06, which i found out about last year. such as life. the only reason i mention any of this is that while my brother and i never learned anything directly from him, i think just being around him must have been enough.
i am glad for that. in this day and age of just about disposable everything, it seems the diy'er is becoming a rare breed.
on july 4th, my car was totaled by an idiot not paying attention to the red light and using my civic to stop her suv. a couple of months later, i found the perfect replacement vehicle, a 1985 gmc s15. all carburetor. NO computer less the old delco am/fm electronic tuning radio.
anyways, this truck has been a project that has done a couple of things, one being a release of stress and also, a pos that is slowly becoming a worthwhile object that will last another 25 years that i did myself.
my real job is an electronics technician. i can troubleshoot to component level and LOVE test equipment. (there should be a separate forum for test equipment for all the questions about meters and o-scopes.)
outside of my day job, i am a jack of all, yada yada yada....
that's all i can think of now.
lastly, this forum is great!
see my thread in the general tools forum for my finds from the past two weeks.
