hmmm..........early style hard seat set for automotive valve work?

The cutters would cut a counter-bore in the block, a press or drive fit for the hard seat ring, which would then be ground for a correct valve seating. This would be used if the original seats were 'sunk' from being ground/lapped too many times, or in conjunction with a line of taper pins, to repair a block which had developed a crack at a valve seat.

A bit of history.....from the 'flathead era'.......... : )
