Hey guys, my dad had a motorcycle wreck a couple of weeks ago and his windshield hit his throat. He's doin "ok" but they had to put in a tube through his nose to feed him with, cause he cant swallow. Anyway, it stopped up today and we couldnt figure out how to get it unstoped so......... being resourceful as I am, I went to my garage and got some 1/16" TIG wire and used it to clear it out. I had to be VERY careful to not punch a hole in it, but it worked well and dad got to "eat".

I just thought I'd share a goofy TIG story. I wonder if any of you have got any stories of using tools for something else???

I brazed a 1/8 drill bit onto a 1/8 welding rod and use it to drill through floors or walls to get a location before I make a bigger hole.

At my house in Colebrook Connecticut
when i worked at the torrington company (torrington bearings)
during shutdown in the summer we would clean out the coolant tanks and it was hot as hell.
sweating was terrible.
I went to womens restroom and use a sanitary napkin ( unused of course)as a headband to keep the sweat out of my eyes.
worked great!

A friend of mine came to install cable at my house when we moved in a few years ago (house had no existing cable lines).

He stripped some coax line (about a foot long) down to the center wire, and pushed it up into the ceiling where I wanted the wall outlets.

Then he went into the attic (single story house) and shined his light around until he saw the reflection of the copper wire, and started feeding the line down.

I'm sure TIG rod would work just as well. Pretty good idea for locating stuff through the drywall!

"but they had to put in a tube through his nose to feed him with, cause he cant swallow." Will he be able to lose the feeding tube, ever?

I would'nt be so worried about poking a hole in the tube as I was about poking a hole in something else if the wire came out the end of the tube !!

Sorry to hear of your dad's wreck - I wish him a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, that's why i sold my bike and told the wife i'll wait until our daughter is out of the house before i play roulette with my life again...people be crazy these days, yack'n on cell phones think'n their car is on auto pilot.

On a lighter note, why not just put the blow nozzle on the air hose and purge the tube??:lol_hitti blow papa's belly up like a ballon and make him fart alot:) alright that was just wrong, but somebody laughed somewhere;)

Yeah, they say in 3months he'll be fine maybe sooner. I sure hope so, I'm NOT a morning person at all, and he has to be fed every 6 hours. I love my dad and want him to live forever, but I want him to be better SOON. He went to the Dr again today and they want to see him again next week  for more test. He has a Gold Wing with "Landing Gear" on it. He had just got it and got a little confused leaving church on Sunday morning. He thought the wheels were down and pushed the button to make them retract and the were already up and went down instead. They have a speed sensor on them that kicks them off at 10mph so it was very slow speed, but when they went down, they threw him into a wobble.

He lost control and the bike fell over and the windshield hit him on the neck on its way to the ground. It messed up his throat and lyarnx and now he cant swallow correctly? Hopefully soon he will. He just had open heart surgery 3 months ago and was feeling good and went riding then this happened.
