This was in a box of some random tools that I bought. Cool looking, but no idea of what it is. Anyone know what it is? Thanks,

Saw set maybe? Were there saws with it? Other saw tools?

Funny you mention that. I'd say that 90% of the whatsit threads here are either for a saw set or a slide hammer nail puller, so that's always a safe guess. :)

Check out Abel Stillman, about 7th down, and following. Another is Samuel Knight. I don't see a triple thumbscrew set up like yours yet, maybe one piece is installed backwards.

Yeah, it's that 8th one down, except with a forged iron slider and one piece is in the wrong side.

In the woodworking world, the unknowns are leather working tools.

I wonder what leather workers say about unknown tools?
