I was looking for a bench vise and happen to come across a Wilton 646 utility vise. This is a 6" jaw vise in red paint. Excellent condition and weights a ton. The only blemish is a chip on one of the jaw. Seller looking to get 65 big one.
I search hard online for info on this vise but came up empty. Can anyone chime in on what they know on this vise and is it worth the asking price. Also, any one know where i could get replacement jaw(s). Wilton site has no info on this vise as well as parts for it.......

Check with Autopts he sells Wilton parts! Pictures would help a bunch but $65 for nearly any US made 6" jaw vise seems like a good deal to me. Unless it is beaten battered and bruised, I'd probably go for it. Beware though as some Wiltons are imports.

Wilton introduced the 644 & 645 in the 60's as their new generation utility vises. The 646 I believe came in around 1970. It had a Schiller Pk. Sticker on one side and stamped on the other side Stamped "Made in the U.S.A. Its not a small vise comming in at about 60 lbs or more. If you don't care that its not a bullet and are putting it on your shop bench, its a nice vise. Its got to be stamped "Made in the USA" because all their red utility vises for the last 15 years or so are comming from abroad. $65 seems fair for a USA made 6" Wilton is very good condition.

Autopts, you're right. this one is made in USA and its stamped on left side. Very nice condition. I picked up tonite, the guy was firm on price but i figured it's a good buy though. Do you have set of new jaws for it??

Great find, those bigger USA made Wilton utility vises were well made and one in that condition was a good score! Remember there is a front and a back on that mounting base. The two mounting holes with the larger span go in front.

Mojo,
I've had a 645 since new (25 years ago) as my primary workshop vise. It has seen almost daily use, much of that use is moderate to heavy.

It has been a real nice vise that deserves more than the "utility" moniker.

You'll enjoy it for decades.

Airbuff, I'm going to put this vise into good use. For sure this is built like a brick and weights a ton and nothing utility about it !! Here are some pics of the bad boy.
