What size square tubing did you use for the vise mount and bracket assembly?

I didn't use the standard hitch tubing due to size and weight. It is 2" sq. tube with 3/16" walls. The vise tube is 1 1/2" tube.

I ended up welding shim plates on each side of the 1 1/2" vise tube to minimize the clearance and tighten up the play.

Overall height of the benches is 40", a bit tall but I'm a big boy.

I used 2" x 2" x 3/16" angle iron for the legs and cross members

Leveling casters, 1" expanded metal bottoms.

30" x 48" x 3/8" water jet top with 1.1" inch wide slots cut to accept StrongHand clamps.

The top has angle brackets welded to the bottom which flush up against the bench frame top. Bolted together with 1/2" bolts.

Cutting by oxy/acet will work. Just lay some steel guides down to help with the straight line cutting.

I'm fortunate to have a contact with a water jet that will do these one-offs for me.

thanks, i bought one after reading your post today, went to ebay and got the one that had the clamp and magnets included as a bonus...was $134 but shipping was $28, still cheap for what it is and has great reviews from buyers, I'm pondering buying another today with the middle extending leaf

Stronghand Tools makes a portable welding bench just like that, it's called the Nomad.

I've had one for a couple years now and it's handy for tight shops and small jobs. You can get it for $130-$140 or so.

My welding table with the slots fit the Stronghand clamps, etc.

Great little table for small jobs, quick set up and fold away storage.
