When I saw this at a nearby estate sale priced at $1.00 I thought it might be some kind of specialized anvil. It is solid cast iron. Of course I picked it up right away and carried it around while looking for more goodies before checking out.

But there are no apparent hammer marks on it and the nicely machined flat surfaces still exhibit some of the milling marks.

Somebody here must recognize the specific use for this tool. If you don’t know, just respond with a good guess. That’s usually pretty entertaining.

I think the second pic is the correct orientation for use. What other stuff was it found with? Maybe a jewelers anvil once you remove the rust. Gonna poke the jewelers catalog, nope

Looks like an elevated stand for your beer while working.
When you keep it in the fridge before use, it will keep your drink of choice cool for extended times.

Good ideas guys!

Furthering the anvil idea and the ”small side up likelihood“ idea, I found this LAP ANVIL used by leather workers so they could work sitting down.
Maybe close, but mine seems not high enough to use between your knees.

I like the way your mind works. :beer2:

For me, it might make a nice display stand for a little vise.

Could be some machine part of some kind that was not completely machined.
Got 'accidentally' dropped in a lunch pail for some user specific purpose that never got fulfilled.
I have heard of that happening.
Just sayin'.

Possible but unlikely.
I have found SnapOn tools engraved with big corporation names at garage sales.
