That was my thinking, except I have never seen one that has a deburrer on it.

Check it for a name. Most of the Plews, KD, Lisle, all look alike.

I had assumed these pliers were for ear type clamps, they have a third jaw that moves to other jaws when closed.

The second set, definately is for ear type. But to my limited knowledge, there are several ear types, as well as front use pliers, and side use pliers.

While Pex, isn't an ear type, it is also a compression clamp. (still trying to find a way to use the ear style, without spending the $$$$ on overcharged for Pex pliers (not enough in the used market yet).

I have some KD ear type clamp pliers with jaws like the other one.

Any chance you could give me the dimensions of the pentagon on that socket? The size of the flats and the dstanc from one flat to the opposite point? there's a good chance that could be perfect for an application i regularly encounter at work.

They are indeed. As are some other Bendix caliper bolts found on Saxos/106s/205s/etc. Some Bendix systems need a male 5-point for... something. I have one but have never used it, only ever used my 5-point socket for 205 Calipers once.

The thing i'm thinking of is the spare tyre winch on Lexus RXs and some Toyotas.

I actually use these every day! As a previous member wrote, they are used by utility companies. I see them on water valves (in your front yard). HF sells a large T-handle with a five-sided pattern.

I run into them at "test stations" for the gas company. These are little (4"W?) tubes in the ground that contain "tracer wires" for gas mains. The cap that typically covers them (it's often missing) is held on using an aluminum jam nut setup topped with the 5-sided bolt head. I have a special tool for this purpose, though they are often loose and don't require the tool. I have no idea who supplies the tool---I found the two that I have!

The ear clamp pliers are made by Lisle. They leave their name off some tools so they can be sold under other brands (tool trucks etc...)

Moose, while Snap hasn't had it available for a few years, I have found it reasonably at two places. Acetoolonline and Harry Epstein (William's Pentasocket). I don't know if either ship oversea's though.

Another mystery tool:

they are jaws for a snap on axle puller.


the cj97 was a slide hammer puller with an H bar attached. those adapters would be pinned to the H bar and the slots would grab the axle flange.
