I got this in a box lot in an auction. The hex end fits a 3/4" nut. I'm guessing it is an extension of some type to use plyers or a wrench to fit a bolt?
Does anyone have a better explanation or ID of this?
Thanks
One side has D marking other has 479

You might clean it up a bit to see if the "D" actually reads a single character "JD". Their old timey logo. If so i doubt its a tool but part of a machine.

The picture doesn't show it real well, but the D is definitely only a D. I'm open to it being part of a machine, it was a farm auction. Thanks

Here is another picture from the side. it's about 1.5" tall
If nothing else it's a nice little paperweight. :dunno:
Thanks for any ideas.

My first impression was a D1-4 camlock stud (lathe chuck). My further investigation proves it is not. It still looks like a twist to lock type device.

If OP would show a closeup of the "D" I believe the hook of the "J" will appear. Thats a vintage j-deere part number and part.

Could be. I'll get into a bath in the next few days and see if anything jumps out after that. I appreciate any help trying to figure it out. Thanks

I cleaned this up, and still don't see any evidence of the J attached to the D. I am going along with the idea of it being part of a machine as opposed to a tool.
It may be a casting mark on the top, but it looks like there had been a piece that had been cut off and then smoothed off.
Again, thanks for all info.
