Recently I bought a tool box (full of tools) at auction. This was in it. Anyone know what it is? I don't want to sell it. I'd give it to someone who can use it.

Well, yes; it probably is. It's the "of some sort" thats got me stumped.

Looks like a winner. I thought 5 gal bucket lid tool but the prong isn't enough to catch the bottom of the lid side.
