Another "What is this tool?" thread

Got this with some old taps and dies today for free.....says Swartchild and Germany on it. From what I can tell, the company made specialty tools for watchmaking/jewelry.

Pretty cool. No clue what it would be used for. To hold the watch case while taking it apart?
