Wait a minute--Boise is only a five-hour drive from here. It's dumping snow right now, so add a day to that... maybe just hold it for me 'till spring?

I shall gladly remunerate you on Friday (in April) for a fine vise today.

She's right purty!

What's the base of the stand?
It's a truck brake drum and hub. It's not the most stable thing, so I may modify it. Maybe weld it to some flat bar and bolt it to the floor or something. I may take it off the stand and mount it to a bench or to the job box behind it. I haven't yet decided.

This is the handiest thing I've built in a while:

The base is about 21" square. The casters and handle make it a breeze to move, so I can take messy jobs outside--weather permitting--where the mess already is, but it's dead stable when not tilted onto the casters.

I'm not sure about welding to brake drums. I'd probably use the lug stud holes to bolt it to something. Actually, looking at your pic, it appears the wheel flange is bolted to the drum, so you could unbolt it and weld that to something.

Yeah, I haven't looked that close yet. I like your setup. I will have to look around the local scrap yard and see what I can turn up.
