Picked this up at the thrift store today. It appears to clamp onto a 2x4. All aluminum. The strange thingy in the socket swivels all around and you can lock it into place with the wingnut. Soooooo.......what is this?

I’ll pass on my first thought and go with an expanding tool for copper tubing, think swaging odd diameters

When we used homemade vises for our compound bows we started with a wig mannikin head vise that looks exactly like that one.

Ah-HA!! A table mount vise for a mannequin head. Usually for holding wigs. I swear, there's always somebody on this forum that knows. I believe this to be the forum of all information in the universe!!

yes, this. I do repairs in orthodox jewish homes. Just about every closet has one.
