Another whatsit?

Anybody recognize what this is, or came from?

Google tells me it's a 1974 Topps Mickey Stanley baseball card, but I think it's a pipe clamp.

Yeah, google wasn't much help to me either. I too am guessing that it is made to clamp something round, but that doesn't really tell me what it was made for.

I just went through their 1941 catalog and couldn't find it.

I don't think it's a pipe vise. If it is it's missing some parts as in jaws. Stanley was terrible about using the same numbers for totally different tools not to mention they tried to cover every possible niche.

I'm thinking a holder for an electrically powered tool. Does it swivel?

No, no swiveling. I'm with you on the thought of holding an electrically powered tool.
It's not the right design to be a universal pipe vise, but sure looks like it holds something rough (of ONE particular diameter).

It seems to hold a Stanly 8-B router relatively well, but not perfectly. But it just doesn't seem like a way you would want to hold a router, unless perhaps it was meant to bolt to another machine (and not a bench).

I'm thinking it's a bench mount to turn a hand drill into a buffer, sort of like this but older, sturdier, and sized to fit an older metal-housing drill.

Seems that way. Kind of a letdown. I think the mystery made it better than it really is. Still, the powers of this site never fail to amaze me. And its already indexed on Google, so anyone searching for it now will be pointed to this thread.

My guess is Stanley didn't make that many of these, because they're such useless ****. LOL
