What do you guys use for the floor mat in front of the bench? Ive always used several layers of cardboard, covered with a carpet scrap, cheap and effective, but wondering if theres better?

When I first started working in a machine shop in the '60s they had "duck boards" to stand on. They were hardwood strips maybe 3/4 by 3/4 nailed or screwed to runners. The runners were far enough apart the the strips had a little give or bounce to them. At the end of the day you would pick them up and lean them against something to sweep up. I can still remember the loud noise they made when you let them fall back down.
There are some real nice rubber mats made today for that, but I just use old pieces of carpet. Anything is better than standing on concrete for long periods of time.

The rubber, anti-fatigue mats are well worth it. You can save yourself some money and go to a farm type store and get stome stall mats. These are actually quite a bit heavier and built quite a bit more robust. Price is quite a bit cheaper then the regular anti-fatigue mats. They may be bigger than you require. I used my circular saw to cut mine down to the size I wanted.
