Are Anti-Fatigue Floor Mats such as those sold at Harbor Freight, good buys for the garage / tool room? How easy are they do clean up? Also do they leave a harsh odor if kept on for a long time?

I bought one at Costco two weeks go. 5'x2'x3/4" gray color. Don't recall the price. It feels good under foot and sweeps easily. I did not sense any odor when I laid it down and nothing now.

My basement is about 2/3 covered with the HF mats. Try to get the same item # if you can they aren't cut to align perfect.

The smell goes away. fans and open windows help. They clean up pretty good for normal stuff like sawdust, grease, wd40 etc. Not sure how more heavy duty stains would come out or not.

They have been down for between 6 mos and 18 mos, didn't put it all down or even buy them all at the same time. Held up pretty well to relatively heavy basement traffic.

I have the Costco mats. No smell at all. I think they were around $10-15 for a package which, if memory serves, is 6 squares and the edge pieces. I am very pleased with them.

used one of the HF mats in front of my bench in my new garage and it when I went to move it after a couple of months it was stuck to the floor. after I pulled it up it left half stuck to the floor!

I have a sizeable portion of my shop covered with the HF mats. Put them down in 2012. They've been great. A few stains, few scuffs but overall they've done well. I have horse stall mats in the race side of the shop and they are much tougher but not nearly as cushy.

I had the Harbor Freight ones, but oil soaks in and metal chips, etc got imbedded. I finally bought this one that has a plastic coating on top.

I wanted to buy a few to place in the basement and garage. However, the garage floor is susceptible to all the fluids from the car (oil, coolant, washer fluid, gasoline, etc.). Should I consider something other than Harbor Freight for the Garage?

I think for the Basement, the Harbor Freight mats should work.

Thanks for the feedback and awesome pictures; quite inspiring and motivating indeed. :)

I bought some online from a company in Florida that are black 12" squares, and yellow tapered border pieces to go around my 20" pedestal bowl turning lathe. They are about 3/4" thick and provide adequate cushion and traction. The only real problem is they fill with wood chips and saw dust and need to be vacuumed or air hosed from time to time. They snap together for a solid look and cost about $125.00, but my knees are happy after many hours standing at the lathe.

like TerryH, my wood shop is almost completely covered with the mats, it's a mix of HF and menards and Sam's club mats but they all fit together. I like them for the woodshop, but tried them in the shop and don't like them getting wet, oily, etc.

the nice thing about them in the woodshop is when I drop a chisel or something, and they are easy to pull out a section when I need to move the saw or something. plus they're cheap...

I don't think Harbor Freight makes plastic ones. Are there plastic ones available elsewhere for under $10?

May be using a Harbor Freight ones in conjunction with regular plastic mats may do?

The latter question is what concerns me. These Harbor Freight Anti-Fatigue Mats are known to contain chemicals which can lead to various type of cancers / birth defects. I wouldn't take the chance for the kids. Might be perfect for an industrial / workshop environment. However, for the kids, I would look for alternatives, though most public parks contain essentially the same thing found in a workshop, hopefully this doesn't surprise you.

I have three of these and love em. No odor, don't stick to my finished floor and feel good on the feet. Come in colors but I have gray also.

well, It does surprise me, honestly. I didn't mention it, but I also have a room under my shop I keep girls in lined with these mats to absorb sound and make it a little more comfortable for them. So from now on I will stop smoking and having *** on my HF mats. definitely don't want to get cancer or procreate children with birth defects....
