Hello all,
I am in the process of refurbishing an old mixer appliance, and am looking to replace the cord. (tattered, and infected with black wire disease) From some google searches, I see this Rayon covered wire has a period correct appearance:

But it's only offered in 18/2. I am trying to run a 7 amp motor on 120vac, and I don't believe 18/2 is going to cut it.

Does anyone have any sources for cloth covered wire in the 16/2 or 14/2 gauges?

As a last resort, I may use this sheathing product from Techflex:

but i'd much prefer to find genuine cloth covered wire. Many thanks!

Isn't 7 amps a lot for a small appliance? My table saw draws 13 when wired 110

i thought the same thing...but it's printed right on the side of the motor...

so, are we all sure about 18ga? This item would only be plugged in when used, but regardless, i'm not interested in starting any fires....

In automotive and marine applications they allow 15A with 18AWG using 105°C wire.

I have no idea what the NEC calls out for fixture wire and appliance cords.

Long delay - this got put on the back burner to other projects, but today, we've got some progress!

Most charts recognize 10 amps as the max for 18AWG when used for small appliance power cords.

Thank you for your recommendations; this has been echoed by others, and I decided to go with 16ga due to availability problems with the 14ga

What gauge wire is the old cord? I'd match that.

The old cord is 14ga, which is why I was looking for that initially...in the end, I'm going to go with 16 and see how it goes...

Thanks for that recommendation! This is where I ended up ordering some 16/3 cloth covered wire...it isn't an exact match for what came off, but it'll work just fine, and looks period correct.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I'll post some pics when I get it all back together.
