I am in Delaware County, near Delhi. Where specifically are you? Looks like a fun project. I am in the process of doing a Texaco theme garage. Pics in my profile.

Great building you have there! Now that you're retired, you'll be able to make good progress on it. Don't forget the before and after pictures. If there is "stuff" inside, take a picture before you move it. There are all kinds of stories in these old places. Have fun!

Sorry they are all taken at night when I get home from work, and the weather has been lousy.
picture 5 shows an extension off of the mainbuilding. That has been torn down (not salvageable) and will be rebuilt as the workshop. Ill get measurements this weekend.

My doors will be 9' wide by 8' tall. I want the roll-up insulated style.
On the schematic below, the doors will be at the bottom.

My question is this..will the track assembly for the door be in the way of lifting a vehicle?

I freakin' love old-barn threads. I will be watching this one.

I hope they will inspire me to grow a pair and tackle my old barn some day.

This is a great restoration barn/shop ... maybe not a restoration to a purist, but it sure is a wonderful job saving an old building and returning it to useful service. I've got some questions ... don't take any as criticisms, I'm just curious!

The new sills under the old portion of the building (photos 19, 20, 21) appear to be pressure treated, but are they single timbers or build-ups of several standard dimension planks? Any close-up photos (I realize it's a little late to be asking!!)? The shop floor appears to be a wood floor (pic 38) ... why not concrete? Is that floor flush with the floor of the high bay (pic 44)? You have concrete floors in the bays, but it looks as if you needed quite a bit of fill. What did you use for fill and how did you prevent the flatstone foundation from bulging out when you filled and compacted (pic 42)? What are you going to use the old sheds on the left side of the building for (pic 40)? Any plans to restore them?

John,

Thanks for looking. To answer your questions....the sills that you noted are pressure-treated buildups.
The shop floor is concrete - must not have shown well in pics and it is flush with high bay floor. The shop will be seperated from the high bay by a slider barn-style door.
The fill was a combo of large and crushed stone and wire mesh was weaved in the layers of the stone to prevent displacement. The other extensions will be restored once more $$ comes available.
