Hello!

We just removed these two panels from my grandmothers house that was built in the 40s. When my electrician came over to quote setting a new panel, he got all excited about seeing these two working panels. He said they can be very desirable for people that need these exact breakers or are collectors.

Can anyone provide a little more insight if these actually hold some “collectors value”

Swapping in ancient breakers? No thanks

I have to imagine that was swapped at some point. Anything that old must have been originally built with fuses, no?

The XO breakers in the first photo have been obsolete for about sixty years, and are long past time for replacement, the tan handle type CH breakers are still manufactured but some early CH loadcenters have a bar going through the center that is secured by one way screws, that has to be removed & sometimes it’s a PITA.

Top panel is a split bus - no main breaker that shuts off everything, just multiple 2 poles for the large loads and a 2 pole 60 that feeds the lower half. 100A and 200A main breakers must have been incredibly expensive back in the day as I think I've seen all of the major brands with a split bus design.

I got one in the storage basement, n one ever offered big bucks for it. The Sparky is making conversation with you, no one really wants that stuff. Its obsolete junk.

Tell him to make you an offer, you'll find out if he's serious about the spare parts or if he's a collector. Otherwise, just talk. Pretty cool to see them though, they tell a story of an original house and then AC and electric heat added later.
