Hello, and Happy New Year,

I have several draw knives from an estate collection. It appears that only two are marked.
Can anyone make out the maker on this draw knife?
Many thanks.

Try taking some pix with a low angle, directional light -- like a small flashlight at almost a glancing blow. That will help bring out the surface details.

White crayon or soapstone marker should bring out the lettering. Scrub first with a pad soaked in denatured alcohol to clean up any accumulated grunge in the crevices.

I'll try another angle for the shot. I am coming up with WAR and then LOCK?
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

If zrx is correct ( and others) , it’s probably “warranted cast steel”, which gets us nowhere closer to an ID.

Dickinson, Mathieson, Cam, and others used that. Anybody know if that was a more English term? A few quick searches seem to indicate it’s a more Sheffield based process than US based. Might tweak the search a bit.

I have an old draw knife that i picked up for a few bucks. Turns out it was made from an old file. Kind of neat, and it works great.

Cast steel was a small batch in a pot. It was a specialty steel. Small for steel mill anyway. Every lower line handsaw was labelled Warranted Superior, but no name. So that means nothing.

I enhanced the label using CSI- grade TV-show text recognition software... It doesn't say "WARRANTED"

It says " WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer.”

I thought it said “Known to the state of California to turn your boys into dust in your shorts”, but whatever:dunno:

My best guess would be Warwood edge tool co.

I’ve been wrong before, won’t mind being wrong again.
