I have a horizontal motor driven mortise machine made by UNIT ELECTRIC TOOL CO. of SYRACUSE, NY. IT IS #0814, Cast Iron, and 80-90 years old. I WILL BE SELLING IT, But would like to get more info. on it. Unit Elec. Co. was bought out by Porter Cable, and still manufactures a router under the UNIT ELEC. label. I haven't been able to find any information about my machine20220404_132625.jpg20220404_132639.jpg

Unit Electric was in business from 1946-1948, when they were bought by Porter-Cable, who wanted to add routers to their power tool lineup. The two motor units, the UB and larger UC, were sold for the next three years until they were supplanted by the 511 and 514 routers that Porter-Cable developed in house from the basic Unit design. Porter-Cable would modify many other Unit accessories to fit later routers, but chose not to pursue the mortiser. Elements of the Unit routers could be seen in the larger framed routers until Stanley- Bostitch ( who currently owns Porter-Cable) discontinued all of them last year.
