I know this will sound dumb but I have an overwhelming desire to have one of those old crank type hand drills like my Grandfather used to have. I do alot of wood stock work and think one would be really fun to have. Does anyone even make one anymore? Thanks!

I have a couple actually... PM me and I can get you pics of the ones I have. I'm not attached to them and I'd make you a killer price on them. Like cheap.. haha.

I have an old craftsman one I picked up at an antique shop, like new. Search your local antique shops and I bet you will find something. I would offer to sell you mine as I will never use it but I have a very hard time selling tools!

Hey hey, old and cranky?? This is my department hee hehehe

Ok, what do you have in mind?
We got massive 16" braces and enormous corner drills. We got eggbeaters from honkin 5 speed Yankee breast drills to dinky tiny jewelers drills.
My friend Wiktor restores old ones to considerably better than new if you want a showpiece.

I just did this one as an example of making a new cap. The little caps are --always-- missing and nobody has made any new ones in about 75 years.
This one is Goddel-Pratt who made soem dynamite specimens.

Thanks for the replies! PM's sent. And yes I mean an egg beater type. I like to do my wood work with hand powered tools. Scottg1952 that thing is beautiful! Your buddy rebuilds and sells these?

Yes, he does. Its his boogie to support the website.

I restored the one in the picture myself.
thanks for the kind words
I am an old tool junkie like you can't imagine. Watch your step!! Its a steep slope heheheheheheheheheeh

It is so small, the chuck will only hold a 3/16" drill bit! But look how beefy and well cut the main gear is?? Lovely little thing. Many times the small drills were made pretty cheezy. Hard to find a good little one.

Finally got one, Made by Miller Falls(?) . A fellow woodworker buddy of mine gave it to me with a set of fluted bits. He also gave me a brace with bits also. Great guy.

Nice. They may seem kinda awkward at first but the more you use it the better they feel. You'll probably want other ones too. A tiny one for real fine work and then maybe a big one.

IROCZ,
My dad is a woodworker who has a bunch of these. I know from growing up helping him in the garage that he absolutely HATES Millers Falls. I seen to remember him complaining that they use their own proprietary screw threads, or something like that. In other words, when he is rebuilding one and has to make parts for it it is a pain in his ****.
Yours looks beautiful, I just wanted to let you know in case it ever might need a part.

My brother says my dad is Amish, because he does almost EVERYTHING by hand. The nice thing about these drills is the amount of control you have when drilling. Enjoy it!
