Hi

I'm a new member and have an old snap on tool box. It's missing its original casters. It needs cleaning up.

I would like to know if any of you guys have seen anything like this. Any idea the year it was make . . or the approximate value

That looks like the very early Snap-On boxes from the '20's. There is a Snap On site that has all the old catalogs. You can match it up there. There are also generic tool boxes that look like old Snap On's. Does it say Snap On on it?

Seriously? Wow, your timing is amazing.

There is another member who just acquired that same model this past weekend and we are waiting for him to finish posting more information. I believe yours dates from the early 1930s and is quite rare. You're going to get a lot of jealous people posting here shortly!

Thanks for the help guys . . . This tool box is featured in a 1931 catalog.

Now can anyone give me a estimate on what it is worth ?

I would post your pictures and question in the Vintage Tool boxes thread here https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49743

A lot of people use an app called "Tapatalk" on their smart phones and only see threads they are subscribed to. You will get a much better response in the other thread.

I will try to answer your question with a question. Where are you located? Prices on specific brands of tools and tool boxes vary depending on your location for various reasons, so attaching a value to it will depend on your locale.

The other Snap On box like yours mentioned above was sold somwhere in the low 200 dollar range. It did have the casters though.

Welcome to the forum. DrivesItFar should be along shortly. He explains how things work here far better than me.

That said, "what's it worth" posts early on in membership are generally frowned upon. Update your account with location and such. Make yourself at home and show us anything cool that you come across.

Really? Who frowns on "what's it worth" posts early on in memberships? I know there are members who get **** hurt about it for some reason, but the majority of us don't care. This forum is about spreading information and there are many, many threads of people asking the worth of something ( the vise and garage sale threads are full of people asking ). Just because someone wants to know what it's worth, doesn't mean they are flipping it. And if they are flipping it, who cares? It doesn't even appear he said anything about selling it. I know when I get something old and cool, I like to know what it's worth. 1. to see if I overpaid and 2. just out of curiosity.

Don't shoot the messenger. ;)

I gave him the info on price. I'm one of those who doesn't care about asking about price. I like to know the market too.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I still don't know my way around here. But look forward to making some contributions.

I attend a lot of country auctions and hope to find some unique tools

Thanks
