Antique/Vintage Hay Knife, appears Blacksmith Made ?

I wonder how many here know what a hay knife is, and how it is generally used? I had only seen pics prior to picking this one up at a farm barn sale in my AO. It has no makers mark, as i think most were marked with sticker tags, if at all. Shown after Vinegar Bath and Wire brushing, in preparation for 2 Oak replacement handles I'm fabricating on my wood lathe.

That tooth shape should reduce the number of potential vendors. Most have very regular teeth like your catalog cut shows. Blacksmith made sounds reasonable.

I've never seen one used, but I've had to tell a lot of people that it is not a xxxxx. (almost any choice here, ice saw, scythe, machete...)

I think you are correct on the blade tooth pattern, and it just may lead to the makers name. I will explore that.

I have a big old one hanging in the barn, blacksmith made and no teeth, it's got only one handle.
Unfortunately I have genuine experience of the hard and dangerous work of using it, as a much younger man..

The teeth on that knife are horrible. Somebody reworked them for some unknown reason. You're not going to find the maker by looking for that tooth pattern.

10-4, i will **** can it Immediately then ! If you put your glasses on, you will see a pattern of 3 repeated several times over on the blade!

Update: In my early research of my Hay Knife Maker, i have found many many "Patent Improvemnets to the Original Patent Cutting Blade. It appears many users were not happy with existing blade designs, and were trying to develop a better blade design. Below is ONE, of the more bazar attempts, (imo), that may or may not have worked. Fascinating old tool history lesson for me. PS: I want to thank the Rude, Pessimistic," I, You, We, CAN'T", and "YOU WILL NEVER KNOW", Expert on ALL THINGS TOOLS, _"crguy" for Motivating me to Dig Deep !
