I am going to look at an anvil tomorrow. I have no pics and the guy said it is ~300# and the only markings on it are "IAF" and "USA", also he got it as military surplus. I hope that is enough for somebody here to tell me who made it and what kind of quality to expect from that manufacturer. It's a 2 hour drive for me, but the guy seems nice!

Very interesting vise. I have never seen one with such a short, stubby horn. I wonder if IAF stands for Israeli Air Force.

Could be a Vulcan. They had kind of stubby horns, and were largely cast bodies with a thin hardened steel plate on the working surface.

Jrican,
Nice looking anvil. Should clean up nice. Not sure what you have, but i don't think it is a Vulcan. They have a very distinct logo on the side. This one is a small 50# one, but I believe they all have the same cast logo.
Post a pic on this site, http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/62-anvils/
and I'm sure the fine folk over there will find an answer for you pretty quick.
John

Physically how big is that, and how many people did it take to move? If you could do it yourself, I doubt it is even close to 200.

Without any clear references for scale I'd guess that to be somewhere in the 60-75 lb area. But the answer is simple; set it on a bathroom scale and check it. (you may want to put a 1X over it especially if the bottom of the anvil is not flat)

it is 4-3/4 wide x 10-3/4 high by 24 inche long. I moved it by myself, but I used a cherry picker to do it. I could slide it across the bed of my truck, but I have a plastic bed liner. I do not have a scale. There are no markings other than the ones pictured. I did look for the vulken/arm & hammer symbo, it is not there. I'm guessing 200 - 250 because it is about as hard for me to lift as my dumbell rack with weights on it, and that is 210 + ~ 25. For refrence There is a jetski in the background of the last picture, the bench the anvil is on is against the rack the jetski is on.
