Just picked this anvil up for a next to nothing compared to what they normally go for. Anyway, I can't find any markings or stampings anywhere other than the one in the picture. The bottom is flat, top is 4" wide and 25" end to end. Was told it was from an old car dealership in the 1920's. I would like to know more about it, (age, brand, value, etc), if anyone can help.

Certainly looks old, and in great shape (all things considered). Possibly an import? If it were US made by one of the big makers like Hay-Budden, Columbus Forge & Iron Co. (Trenton anvils), or Columbus Anvil & Forging Co. (Arm & Hammer anvils), it would normally have other markings on it (stamping in serial numbers on the front of the foot, markings on the sides with the name and weight). The small raised mark is interesting. I'm not familiar with that mark, though. Possibly a Swedish import? Is there anything stamped on the other face (the side where the horn is to your right as you are facing it). Any lettering might be mostly obscured from use. Whatever it is, it is a cool anvil.

Hold that thought. Check this out. Looks like the same marking:

If the guy on that thread is correct, it "appears to be a Soderfors, made in Sweden for Columbian between 1923 and 1927". Cast steel anvil (as opposed to a wrought iron anvil) but still excellent quality. Columbian was an American maker of vises (bench and blacksmith vises).
