OK, guys, you asked for the alert when it comes up again...

The Troy Swap Meet and the SOFA blacksmith show is this weekend in Troy, Ohio. I don't feel bad telling you all about it on GJ, since I am no longer affiliated with the event. But I will be there as a vendor and a shopper.

The blacksmith show is a SEPARATE event, with a hefty admission fee. But I think you can join their assn, and get in at a discount? Still, I'll probably pay the admission fee, and hope I can buy a really BIG bench vise this year.

Troy is located right off I-75, just north of Dayton, Ohio. The events are at the Miami Co Fairgrounds. If you come up there, look for ol' Lump inside the main vendor building with lots of tables filled with junk. (OR, I'll be out wandering among the anvils, vises, and metal-working tools).

And, YES, I am taking my camera, for those folks who don't live close enough to attend. Wish me luck!

Ok...good luck...I've been looking over the pics of anvils thinking I need to find a small one to sit beside my tiny little 3-1/2" inch stroke Atlas arbor press....that will someday sit beside a 2" baby bullet Wilton...

Ken,
Let me know if you're serious about a small anvil...really small, that is. I have a couple that I'm taking up there for sale.

You apparently are in the know Lump because I can never find swap meets/flea markets like that around here.

Highest price I saw written on a vise was $700...but that vise weighed way over 400 pounds. Some were as low as $175...but I didn't bother looking at reproductions or tiny anvils, which were presumably cheaper. Most were in the $250-400 range.

Lump - Do you really think that there were vises in the 400 lb range for real? That would be incredable. I would have paid someone to take photos for me:)
What an event.
