Any "BAD" experiences with VCT ?

Been cruising through the threads in here and am learning alot. I too have talked to Armstrong (prior to finding this forum) and after that conversation I pretty much figured using VCT tile wasn't going to be possible as they don't paint a real rosey picture of using it in any garage environment that may see temps below 55 degrees.

After reading in here, I see however that many folks have used the VCT in various parts of the country (I live in Western Washington).

My question is.... have any of you had a negative experience with your VCT, and if so why? Could you have done something different to avoid the problems you've had - and would you go with VCT again if given tha chance?

I'm just trying to do my homework so I don't run into making a huge mess that I may regret later.

Thanks for your info....

The only problem I encountered with Armstrong VCT flooring is that a small amount of gasoline or oil will quickly discolor or even ruin the tiles. I found that placing an oil-absorbing blanket under cars helped. However it’s easy to replace a few tiles to retain that showroom look.

Since Armstrong did not design VCT for garage use they can never say it's OK to use them there. Any of us that install them in a garage are doing so with no recourse as to warranty. I installed my floor just about 4 months ago and so far no regrets. I have found, as was posted here, that the tires will leave a yellowish discoloration on the white tiles (maye the black too but it's not noticeable). I have not tried to clean it off yet since it doesn't bother me enough to take action.

Oh, OK. Did you put on a sealer or clear afterwards? Looks like some do and some don't. Just wondering what you used and how you did it?

At least once if not twice a year I would strip the floors with a power 24” diameter scrubber. Put down two coats of Johnson Professional Floor Finish. Followed by light buffing between and after final coats.
