Dude(tte)s,

I'm looking at doing the bed of my Scout halfcab with the Duplicolor Bed Armor kit. The Scout has a little surface rust but nothing bad. Their website mentions very little about surface prep other than use the scotchbrite pad they give you to rough up the surface. Trying to figure out the best route for a quality job, thinking about wirewheel/DA to bare metal but unsure about steps from there.

Bed Armor applied directly to bare metal?

Primer then Bed Armor?

Other?

Thanks for any help you can provide, I'd like to get it right the 1st time.

Was about to post the same question. I just picked up an old S10 that had a plastic liner in it. Bed is nearly pristine, with exception of surface rust.

They just did this on Trucks on Spike TV. Simply scuffed, then rolled on the coating. Check their website and you can likely see the episode.

i have used this product....i do collision and bodywork for a living...i did sort of adhesion tests prior to applying it on the CLEAN, NO RUST PAINT or metal...like others, i wanted to get this done correctly first time...., i scuffed the surface with red schochtbrite, 240 grit paper, 120 and 80 grit....sprayed bed armour , let it dry for one day and tested the adhesion next day by scratching it with scraper..

i suggest using 80 or 120 grit paper for surface prepping on clean paint and to provide deep scratches for better bond..i dont believe scotchbrite provides enough "bite"...

if you have rust spots where you need to remove surface rust , i suggest cleaning the metal and applying epoxy primer first , then applying bed armour within specified time window....i have applied Bed Aromur over epoxy primer and this bond is extremely strong..very very hard to chip....

if you dont have or dont want to spend money on epoxy primer, then apply self etching primer from a rattle can on bare metal, let it dry , scuff it lighlty and then apply bed armour...

I just lined the inside of my jeep tube with Raptor Liner this afternoon, I think it is made by U-Pol (Por-15). I have used it before and really like the finish it has, it seems to hold up well. The thing that I like the most about it is the fact that it is a spray on coating so it is very easy to install, also the kit has four seperate containers in the kit, so if you do not need the whole kit you do not have to waist the extra.
