Are there any users here who can tell me if the Bosch HTH181 and IWHT180 18V impact wrenches are the same tool except for the anvil? The HTH181 is a pin detent and the IWHT180 is friction ring style anvil. Amazon is running a great deal on the HTH181, but I am curious if I could directly swap the anvil from the IWHT because I would prefer the friction ring to the pin. Thanks in advance.

Ok good to know, I wasn't sure as I couldn't find a parts diagram for either impact on the Bosch site. GSteg do you have any hands on experience with these impacts?

Slightly different question, what situations makes having a pin or friction ring better over the other?

I ask, as I'm interested in picking one of these up sometime in the coming year (have other Bosch 18V gear).

Do you feel it puts out the claimed 500 ft-lbs? How long does a charge last? I'm looking to replace my Goodyear 24v impact because of the poor battery life and slow charger. If the Bosch is anything like their impact driver I expect it to be good. I'm looking at purchasing the tool only since I already have 4 of the 2.6ah fatpack batteries.

So I was trying out the HTH181 pin anvil version in the store today. It has a chamfer on the leading edge of the pin so you can slide the socket on easily, but you still need to push the pin down to remove it. It looks as if you could knock out the roll pin that retains the socket pin, then chamfer the other side of it to make sockets slide off the anvil as well. Not that I would really want to modify a brand new tool. The Makita impacts make much more sense to me, they have a fully tapered retaining pin that made sliding sockets on and off easy.
