Any cheap LED work lights worth buying?

I see a bunch of LED ones on Home Depots website, any worth getting? Looking for some sort of small floor unit about the same size as the old halogen's, $30 is the upper limit since I try to avoid working out in the dark. I need something that runs somewhat cool because I need to scrape all the lose paint and scale from the under body of my vehicle in the summer. Also want it to be decently durable, sick of the halogen dying on me because of 1-2 foot falls.

Hey! Looks like HF has that Braun 390 lumen led back in stock.
Was looking for more of a compact floor unit, those lights look fine for what they do but I'd prefer a cord and those look a bit fragile knowing me.

Snap on led light, (Costco model) if you can find one.
Don't have a membership with them, do the other clubs have those? I feel like I saw snap on branded stuff at Sams or somewhere.

I just screwed a cheap LED flood to a piece of board. Looks a bit Redneck but it works well. If you've already got a halogen light with the frame you could mount a LED flood in it.

I like this idea, mod old halogen frame to hold a led floodlight body .
floodlight bodies are cheap so be affordable and cheap keep serviceable if you bust it .

If I do this I won't get even the little bit of heat produced from a halogen lamp! :bounce:

I bought a led trouble light conversion kit at Menards for around $15.. The cage and bulb are replaced by this rather flat, rectangular, well built case which covers a bunch of led lights

It is bright, has a hook like a normal trouble light, and stays cool to the touch.

Snap on led light, (Costco model) if you can find one.

IMO the extra 2150 lumens of the 'Snap on' is worth the extra $10-20 over the Braun.

those are great. i shoulda bought more than the 1 i bought. haven't seen them, since they sold out, several years now.

I've got the Snap-on too! Love it. I also wish I would have bought more than 1.

You can still get them off Amazon, but the price is double what they sold for at Costco. I even tried doing some reverse hunting as the light itself is made by Alltrade. I figured they made one with their name, but I haven't found it yet.

How many watts are you running? I see a 50 and 20 ones on amazon, I want a good bit of light but don't want to blind myself under a car.

Depending on the surface of your driveway and the amount you do at night and how much you want to set up, I've seen people at the race track with led fog lights mounted to their creepers, and either clamped to the battery or plugged in to a 12v converter. Walmart and autozone usually have some for under $30, made to be universal mount and adjustable, pick your color temp.

Depending on how much I end up doing outside this summer, I'm thinking about a tripod style mount with a car or golf cart battery and magnet mount, so they could go under the hood or under the body or next to the barbecue.

Running a 20W right now. It's OK but if I do another I'll use a 30W. Using mine in a shop with decent, but not bright, ambient lighting. A 50W would probably be overkill unless you're wanting to use it outdoors in daylight.

Do we have any idea who the OEM was for these?

Would be nice to try to source them under another brand, since Costco stopped stocking them...

I think someone said alltrade? I also heard they couldn't find alltrade making them for any other brands.

Yes, I believe the latest version is Alltrade. IIRC, they are green (body color) and exactly like the Snap-On version. If you have a Menards near you, you can buy them there. However, unlike the Costco at like $29 , I think the Menards price is around $69 or so. The Snap-ons were a real steal at $29 and I bought 2 right away cause I liked how they looked and now how they perform.

PS They are by "Smart Electrician," not Alltrade, and they are $71. I just checked. They are also listed as dimable in the ad.

You can find knock-offs of the 40SL on wish for like $8

Yeah, cuz that sounds legit.

Then you see pictures on instagram of these with dead insects inside of them and melting from getting hit with some solvents.
Sounds like something I want to plug into my wall and go to sleep next to :eyecrazy:

Honestly, the led light stands in hd are very reasonably priced these days.

This is the (one of) snap on light Costco had.. down to $29 at one point. It was crazy cheap and they were selling online for like $99 to the ill informed.

Snap-on 922261 LED Work Light, 2000 lm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJOCDJO/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Some hot deals threads about it.

The dual powered Ryobi 1700 lumen floodlight 110ac or 18v cordless is only $49 now too. New model coming out.

But look at the husky models too

I must agree with the Snap-on raves. I also should have bought more than one!

I got rid of my halogen light as soon as I got this LED.

I almost got rid of my halogens, but I kept them for the heat effect. I often wind up working in cold, unheated places in fall and winter, and they help ward off the cold while lighting a work area, so they do have their place. But overall, I much prefer the LEDs for most situations.

Also got this cheapo set on clearance for $5 in Jan at WM, the pen lights are actually not bad, retail of one pen light is $5 which is kinda overpriced. The whole set came with batteries too.

I buy the old metal drop lights at garage sales for $1-2.00 and put 60W equivilent LED bulbs in them. I tried bigger bulbs, but they were too bright in tight spaces.

No heat, and the bulbs are resistant to vibration and shock loads. I did loan one to some carpenters working on my farm shed who managed to break the bulb, but the LED still works, so I put it in an enclosed fixture a couple of years ago and it still works fine!

These are excellent — I have two of them. The CAT worklights Costco is selling now are completely different. The version now comes in a two-pack, uses AA batteries, and is smaller. Dunno how they compare — they may be fine — but they’re not the same, alas.
