Any concern over garage humidity?

I really need to stop hiring people to do things and just make time to do it myself. I had a nephew replace trim around our garage. A few years ago, I added some doors with an R factor, just to help keep it cool/warm as the case may be. Was really more concerned with the climate of the room above the garage.

Anyway, after he replaced the trim, I noticed a fair amount of daylight on the edges of the doors. My guess is that the trim he installed was cut a bit thinner, so now there's a gap letting in light/air.

Even before the trim replacement, I know the garage can get hot/cold. I'm paranoid about temp changes, condensation, etc. Everything I care about is in a cool, dry place. Except for what I have to put int he garage.

I plan on putting a dehumidifier in the garage. My biggest concern is cordless power tools. Anyone else concerned about humidity in the garage, or am i being paranoid?

I run a dehumidifier the year round, it keeps the humidity at 50%. rust is not a problem.

I also live the Northeast and just went thru a bout of warm humid air along with a couple of days of mostly steady rain showers. I needed to work some wood so I had to do it in my garage and since I was using all my saws and then poly staining my work I had the garage door WIDE OPEN.

The humidity was wreaking havoc inside my walkout basement...3 sides are concrete, I live with it, try to keep my door closed during those more severe times and run a fan to move the air when needed.

But to answer your cordless tool question tonight I pulled several M18 batteries to put on chargers also those had all been sitting in tool bags low on the floor Had green and red lights flashing left and right

Took a bit maneuvering to make all the chargers recognize all the batteries

Personally I don't think those small leaks will have that much effect if the doors stay closed

Other than that all bets are off

1000 sqft shop well sealed and very well insulated. Doors are closed most of the time. Building is always cool even in the summer heat. Visitors ask if the shop is air conditioned. The building is always covered in complete shade and sees no sun light, wooded lot. Run a dehumidifier during summer months because if I don't, humidity will exceeded 70%.....my first indicator other the feel as leather welding gloves startd to show signs of mold.

Neighbors have the exact same conditions.

Winter humidity is not a problem and the building is easy to heat.

I have a AO Smith hybrid water heater http://www.hotwater.com/water-heate...brid-electric-heat-pump-water-heater-fptu-66/ ,

It cools and dehumidifies the garage and uses the absorbed heat to make hot water. Pretty cool tech, like a small AC unit mounted on top the water heater. Drops garage temps by 20-30 degrees in the summer.

Yep. My Bridgeport screwdrivers had what looked like mold on their cushion grips. They were in my MAC top box, with a drawer liner. I tossed the liner and cleaned up the grips. That's what got my attention. I always knew it fluctuated in there, but I didn't think the tools would be affected by it.
