I'm helping a Russian professor with some mechanical work on a research project he's working on and instead of paying me, I thought it might be cool to instead get something interesting from Russia since I'm sure he knows people there.

Any know of any cool tool items from Russia?

Not quite a tool, but I have a Russian blasting machine (for setting off electric blasting caps) at work. I'll get pics Monday.

The biggest, most deadly and amazing battles of WWII happened in Russia, without question. If you are a history buff, you may be able to acquire fabulous collectibles from battlefields like Kursk, Stalingrad, and others. Way cool.

I know citizens in russia can own what we consider short barrel rifles but know automatics. And you cant ship parts kits with intact military barrels into the us any more.

Do you mean cool really weird something interesting or cool really useful something interesting?

At one time, the former USSR was awash in metrology equipment.

I also have several large dial Calipers still packed in grease. When I was a kid we had a Russian family (7) stay with us for a year till they got on there feet. We had a large farmhouse but it was still crowded. The father gave me the tools when they left for the new house. He was an engineer in Russia but left for religious reasons. The Calipers and Micrometers are nice quality.

When I was stationed in Turkey we used to be able to buy some really nice looking Russian Rolex copies. If the quality has dramatically improved you might be able to get one that will work for more than 5 minutes. I wouldn't bet on it though.

I was going to say an SKS or AK47. I don't know what else they Russia is famous for manufacturing except vodka, which I have no interest in.
I have an old sickle that was made in Russia, which I always thought was a bit funny as their symbol is the hammer and sickle.

I dont know about tools, but I have a Ushanka that I love. In spite of the ridicule my wife gives me for wearing it, its my warmest and most favorite winter hat.
