Any difference between Snap On tools made in USA or Canada?

I am always looking at tools and boxes on Craigslist. Occasionally there will be a prompt at the bottom of the screen that says "Few local results. Here are some from nearby areas" and they will show listings from other cities near me such as Portland, Bellingham, Wenatchee and, occasionally, British Columbia. Well, I got to looking at some of the ads this evening and found some great deals. I was mainly looking at Snap On tools and boxes. Everything I saw said it was made in Canada, which makes sense. Can anyone tell me if there is any difference? Also, is there anything special I should know about bringing used merchandise back into the US?

No difference, Canadians make excellent stuff and take pride in their work. The only thing maybe bringing stuff back from Canada is customs duty.

I just read up on this, and according to the US Customs website, household goods, including tools of the trade, are duty free. I am definitely going to keep this in mind.

As long as SO maintain its quality control, doesn't matter where it is made.

Cool, thanks for looking up the info. I'll keep that in mind next time I go there and find tools I want to bring back.

You really have the Snap On fever!

My oldest friend is a mechanic. A LONG time ago I was helping him with a car...okay, he was working on a car while I drank beer and smoked cigarettes and handed him tools...and I asked him why he bought Snap On tools when Craftsman were just as good, because they both had a lifetime warranty. He stopped what he was doing and looked at me and said, "If Craftsman were as good as Snap on then they guys with tool boxes full of Craftsman wouldn't be pissed off all the time." And he smiled a big fat grin :)

I have had the Snap On fever ever since then. It is just in the last year or two that I actually started making money with real tools and finally get to let that love flow <3

shipping from Canada is very expensive. You should also figure shipping into the price.

I was planning on just driving up and loading it up in the back of my little truck. If I can save several hundred dollars on a box then spending a hundred to go get it is well worth it to me.

I would almost expect the Canadian made products to be better. The workers are able to focus on the task at hand more due to the lack of stress since they have proper health care and better job rights.

Lolz, sorry.

That is pretty much what I thought. There are some really good Canadian companies that make quality stuff; in my opinion it is right in line with American made.

Have a set of under lined logo 3/8" shallow metric sockets made in Canada, they've held up great. Can't see any difference at all from my USA made sets

The Canadian Snap-On tool plant closed around 1986 and the tool box factory around 1990. These dates are just my recollection so probably out a year or two. Most of the stuff we see around here today is made in the USA (although most of my snappy tools are made in Canada... just because, well, you know;).
