My pole barn has a 10 foot ceiling. Are there any downsides to using four tube T8 High Bay Fluorescents at this 10 ft height? Old guys need more light.:)

You'll wanna make sure they are HO (High Output) for more light and rated for the cold. Can't get much winter work done if the lights don't come on or just flicker.

I have 8.5' ceilings. I used a 6-tube 48" T8 high bay fixture in the space between my two garage doors (roughly 3 feet apart) to throw more light into that space when the doors are open. It works as well as the standard hooded fixtures I have in the garage as far as light dispersion goes. I added a switch to shut off half the bulbs when I don't need as much light, simply because I had the switch and the fixture is made with a pair of 3 lamp ballasts. I switch one ballast off, and every other light remains lit. When the doors are shut, the lights above the area blocked by the raised doors are useful. The floor space between the doors is taken up with three pedestal grinders and a large buffer. The extra light provided by the fixture is great for the detail work I often do at the grinders.

I hung my 400 watt MH @ 12ft. So far so good . Haven't worked under them much but I like it so far. I'm wondering how hot they'll be this summer tho.
