Any experience with harbor freight hoses?

Looking to pick one up, something along the lines of 100'. Every hose I have ever had ends up breaking at the brass pressed on coupling.

I typically cut them off and have my local hydraulic guys fix the ends with some good hydraulic fittings so I am mainly concerned with the rubber.

I purchased a 50 dollar hose from NAPA and it didn't last as long as the 20 dollar Chinese one from Lowes........

So any experience with the red harbor freight hoses??

HF used to sell Made in the USA Goodyear rubber air hoses. Those were good ! Not anymore !

100' Goodyear 3/8" rubber air hose, red or yellow, is about $50 on eBay, $60 on Amazon.

I bought one a few years ago for my at home garage use. It has held up fine. My only complaint is that is kinks pretty easily like a garden hose. You have to roll it out carefully if you are stretching it out.

I have an orange 50' air hose I got from HF several years ago. As another poster said, it's a goodyear hose made of rubber. It has held up well but doesn't see a lot of use.

All they seem to sell now are the shiny plastic-based material hoses. I don't know about the longevity of those.

The shiny plastic based hoses hold up fine as long as it's not too cold. HF's rubber hoses get soft around paint chemicals and leave black marks on things they rub against.

Have had good luck with the ones that come with their spring driven reels.
Lots of problems with the ones that come on their manual reels. The hose cracks
and leaks right by the end fittings. Have cut it off twice now, and don't use this reel
very often. I only have one of these manual reels, so it might be just a bad hose.
Have about 6 of spring driven reels and both hose and reel work pretty good for
such an inexpensive unit.

Mine are about 16 years old & are just starting to have issues. I have the ones with the typo so the warning says "Risk of BURNING over 300psi"... unless spontaneous combustion is actually an issue at that pressure? ;)
I have Milton fittings on the end of mine. The hoses will be getting replaced sometime this year, I got my $$$ out of them :)

:+1: I've been real happy with my yellow good year 3/8 hose. Also check out sears/craftsman they sell USA made air hoses that are nice for the price.

I have a 50' black HF hose, after about a year it it started to turn my hands black when I handled it. It was easy to wash off but the black residue will get anywhere the hose touches. It still holds air and I only use it if I need air away from the shop. The HF plastic hoses will blow off the fittings if the temp gets over 100º

I have the 50ft hose reel from HF, it has the red on it. I expect it to last me a long time, but its just for my home garage use.

Air hose is a lot like tires, if you want soft and pliable its gonna cost you a bit of mileage.

I've used the newer red rubber HF hoses, they are actually very nice to use however I wonder about longevity. Too soon to tell though. They've only been in service a few months, one is starting to show signs of wear around the ferrule, would be nice if they had a strain relief sleeve or spring.

I have bought several different hoses from HF over the years, here's my experience:

cheap red hose - so stiff when cold it won't even come uncoiled. Very hard and brittle after 2 yrs. also turned pink where exposed to sun. I only use it to siphon water out of my boat and other chores. It is junk...

Orange "Pliovic" - bought in '93 for a dedicated clean hose to paint a truck. It is one of the nicest hoses I have ever used. Don't know if they still sell this one.

Black - this is the goodyear black one they sold, have had for 15 yrs so far, and is like new.

Yellow Goodyear - I don't think this came from HF, pretty sure it is from a yard sale or something. It too is one of the nicest hoses I have ever used, but it is 50ft. long so I don't use it too much in the shop. maybe I will cut it in half and make 2 -25'ftrs...If you find a used Yellow goodyear, snap it up!

Red in automatic hose real - about 6 yrs. old now, for the most part in good shape, but starting to get a little loose and spongy around the fitting end for the first 6 inches. I attribute that to my greasy paws grabbing it.

i bought one of their old black goodyear hoses years ago. it kept rupturing, so i have cut it down into a couple pieces (3' and 4 foot pieces). used it for short lengths
bought a blue PVC 50' hose from HF 6 years ago. it has been kept inside, no problems with it
bought an orange poly "roofing hose" 100' from HF about 5.5 years ago. its been on a HF manual hose reel its whole life, also inside. haven't had any problems with it.
couple months ago i bought a 100' blue kobalt poly hose from Lowes. its on a HF manual hose reel, inside also.
only time my hoses see the light of the sun is when they are pulled out of the garage, but even, its very rare, and not for long.
i found an old cheap Big Lots PVC 50' hose at a garage sale. but it just to try out the PVC hoses. it kept its coil for the years it was sitting. was never able to get it out, so i gave it to a friend who just got a compressor and needed something.
this review probably doesn't do much good other then to say that last years if they are kept out of the sun

Have a Harbor freight spring loaded reel at work..it works fine, hose did not make a year as it was in a bright area of the shop..I suspect UV. Bought a Blue PVC at Harbor freight for home use...could never get it to uncoil, aggravating as all get out so I coiled it up tight and used the 50ft hose as a 6ft extention until I tired of looking at it. Took it out to the trash can and the coil was perfect to fit in the the bottom..hunk of JUNK.

My best are my 3 50ft Flexzilla hoses......light, flexable, and strong.

I have the 100' 3/8" red hose from HF. I've had it for 10+ yrs and it has held up great until recently it has developed a bubble in one spot so I know the inner liner is probably deteriorating. But for the length of time I have had it and the amount of use I've had with it I would say its done fine for no more than I paid for it.

x2. The Goodyear rubber hoses they sold were great. I have a few, I think they are all 7 or 8 years old and still going strong.

I used the red hose outside and it lasted about 4 months. It bleached white, cracked, and fell apart.

The hose is good just don't leave it outside.

I have 3 HF red air hoses that I'd give away. 2 are 50', and one 25'. I removed them from HF reels. They are too stiff for my liking. I'm used to Parker push-lok hoses, they're pliable in most weather.
