Any experience with the floor epoxy "epoxy-coat"

I know you guys get tired of all the floor epoxy questions, but in my reading here on this site, I do not recall seeing any mention of this product. It is a 100% solids epoxy and the price is right. Does anyone have any first hand experience with it??

I'm in the same boat. I've looked at:

ucoatit.com - hear good things, some say it standa up to weld splatter!

garagesealers.com - caim to be the best

floorepoxy.com - still looking

the Rustoelum stuff - popular, but only cuz its available easily.

Ebay - there are a few others, all say thy're the best

Some seem to be just putting their own name on it, some claim to be the "factory" for what it's worth, I'm still doing homework. I'm looking at $500 to $1,000 for my 1,000 sq ft area.

If any one has any (long term) experience, please chime in!

I'm in exactly the same boat, I've spent about twice as much on this garage project as my wife allocated but, at this point I don't want to put garbage down on the floor, and since I need to cover 1600 sq. ft. I know it won't be cheap so with everone else I'm looking for the definitive answer.... HELP... I've also read everything I can find about the various coverings and practically all of the diy brands get bad press. Is it lack of preperation ? Someone on here started a thread on a diy job and it sounded like he was doing it right maybe he could chime in and help....Thanks

I am glad I asked now, since I seem to have company in my inability to decide.

Here is my deal:

About 3 years ago in NC, I built a small 22X26 garage with a concrete floor. I used the Rustoleum epoxy-shield stuff with excellent results. I was very careful with my prep work and when I sold the house a few months ago, the floor was still perfect. I found the epoxy to be very resistant to my clumsiness. It withstood hottt tires, oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, tool drops, transmission drops, sliding work benches, ***** (just checking to see if you are awake), diesel etc. I did use two coats because I thought the first coat was way to thin. After the second coat, the floor appearance greatly improved.

My floor in NC had a "rough" surface. My new (to me) floor in Montana, has a very smooth surface, but has never had a sealer. I thought I may use a higher quality product this time to get a thicker coat on the first application.

I think I may try the stuff from the link in my first post if no one knows of any serious issues with it. I believe even the cheap home depot stuff will last a long time if the floor is adequately prepared.

Well, with all the floor coverings available, I'm going to just repaint mine with the el cheapo garage floor paint. Not as pretty, but I don't want to spend big $$$$ only to screw it up welding. And touch up is pretty easy with the grey paint.

You should look into this. The starter of this thread, Chuckscrib, just laid the floor down, but I've had mine down for about 2 years and it resists anything I put on it. I weld and get slag on it all the time. It does burn slightly (leaves a nice brown spot), but hasn't burned through. I use carb cleaner to get off oil and grease, It looks great (hi-shine). Well worth the $$$

Saw that thread, at $100 per kit, I would need two kits, was a bit pricey for me, unless I stop all upgrades on the jeep right now.

Have you ever welded something that was laying on it? Some of the stuff I weld is laying on the floor.

I just called my local Sherwin Williams about the ARMOUR SEAL 1000 HS and they CAN'T sell it anymore in California. That tells me that it's good stuff, because everything that is good or effective or works is pro-business. In the Socialist Republic of California, anything that is good for business is banned or will be soon.

I guess I'm driving to Nevada.

Have you ever welded something that was laying on it? Some of the stuff I weld is laying on the floor.

I have tacked a few pieces directly on the floor, but moved the part immediately, so heat buildup wasn't big enough to damage. I used flux-core, so there was a lot of splatter. But, no burn through on the floor.

The only damage I've caused to the floor was sliding a piece of lumber across it with the tip of a nail sticking out of the bottom side. It scratched, but not all the way through the epoxy.

is this stuff easy enough to touch up when you do scratch it or burn it from welding. i really want to coat my floor in something, but would like for it to hold up to some abuse. if it is easy to touch up, that would be a big plus.

I haven't touched mine up. The max recoat time is 7 days for the ArmorSeal. If you scuff the surface prior to touching-up, I guess it would be possible.
