Any Experience with V8 TOOLS?

OK, they are sort of an off brand, I know. But as it turns out, SK does not even make the wrench set that I want to buy, which is a long set of metric box wrenches.

V8 Tools looks like a serious tool maker from their website, but that's just marketing, so I thought I would ask around. I don't want to look like a spammer by sticking in a URL here, either.

So if you know ANYTHING about this company, don't hesitate to respond.

I have no experience with V8 Tools. . . that's gotta be one of the better decisions I've made.

The sets I've seen at car shows haven't impressed me. It's Chinese made fair. The wrenches I saw reminded me of lower end Harbor Freight tools. They weren't finished well and the boxed end broaching left alot to be desired. If you're looking for a long zero offset wrench set, I would try ebay first for a used set and then maybe Genius or Toptul. Genius and Toptul are Taiwanese made but, are pretty strong.

If you want a good set of extra long metric combo wrenches that are on the value price line I must suggest Toptuls from Mike Wrenn. I have Cornwell and Toptul sets because the Cornwells are beefy and the Toptuls are thinner. Toptuls are about 60.00 and the Cornwells are around 300.00

I have a set of crows foot made by V8 tools; they were inexpensive, but I could not break them (spreading the jaw) .. I was attempting to remove a O2 sensor from a Honda Accord. It had broken (spreaded the jaws) on my Lisle and OTC O2 sensor tool. With the V8 7/8" crows foot, I was able to remove the O2 sensor off the exhaust manifold ..

BTW, both Lisle and OTC warrantied the damaged O2 sensor tools

I have a set of angle wrenches in SAE. The finish is poor to fair. They were inexpensive so I did not send them back but I won't buy any more.

UHH... who or what is Mike Wrenn? You mean Wren Hand Tools? The 6-piece set is $71.29. I wish I could find it somewhere else. Genius tools are much more commonly available. thanks for the tip.

our local tool wholesaler here carries them and they dont seem to be anything all that special but i have no personal experience with them so i can only say they could be a hit or miss

I have a set of service wrenches by them, i have not had any problems with them, they do the job. Being imported from china, the quality is definitely not there, but for the price vs. how much i use them they will pay them selves off.

I've got a set of flare wrenches from V8. Pretty lame, too thick and kinda wimpy. They flex to much for comfort on stuck flares.

I'd check out flea-bay first before I'd buy offshore wrenches.
You still can find NOS American-made wrenches (KD, Allen, KAL) for under Cman prices if you are patient/lucky.

I have two different set by V8 tools. I have the Service wrench set and a set of stubby metric wrenches. I think there a decent tool as long as you realize the intended purpose.I wouldn't buy these if they will be used constately all day every day, but for the occasional job .

I was working on an a van and trying to remove the EGR tube to lift the intake manni (valve cover gaskets leaking). Anyway, couldn't get a wrench in there to bust it loose. Luckily the tool guy had come around and went to purchase one. It was actually cheaper to pick up the service wrench set through V8 then it was for the one stubby wrench. The quality on them isn't good but I wouldn't expect to put them over better brands. Great for occasional use...

I bought a set of their thin wrenches for working on bicyles and they sucked.

I would give them a thumbs down.

I had a set of their long zero offset wrenches. While the finish is excellent, and they feel very nice to hold, the machining leave a LOT to be desired. On the box ends, the thickness was not anywhere close to uniform, and (as I got these used as part of a tool collection), one had a hairline crack on one of the box ends, with no other signs of abuse. They will warrantee stuff like this, but who wants the hassle of a mail in return. Makes me wonder what sort of crappy metalurgy the nice chrome is covering up.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like V8 Tools are just OK and not at all top quality. So probably most of us would buy them only if it was some special tool we couldn't find elsewhere.

So I will probably go with SK, Genius, or Toptul. I am surprised at the number of people recommending Toptul considering there is only one place to buy them!

As I look over the choices, I have to realize that combination wrenches are far more common than box on both ends, and having more choices means a higher likelihood of getting what I want at a good price.

We started carrying these on our trucks but quickly dropped them. We had too many returns. They are definitely not made for the heavy equipment guys. I recommend Genius or SK. Genius being the less expensive of the two.
