Hi, first post....

I'm considering a direct vent or un-vented wall furnace. Seems kind of like a space heater, but permanently mounted on wall. My shop is about 750 SF.

Anybody have any experiences or tips to share? Thanks.

I have some limited experience. A friend has one in his summer home that he occasionally uses in the winter. The wall mounted and vented is the way to go. You might need to have a fan to circulate the air if you find that there are cold spots. I wouldn't use a not vented furnace, since they build up a lot of condensation as products of combustion. I also am not a fan of using kerosene as a fuel since it has a strong odor to it. Go with the natural gas or propane, which ever fuel you have available to you. Just make sure that it isn't over sized for your garage, since that will make it very uncomfortable with extreme temperature changes.

We had an open plan shore house that had a vented natgas wall furnace .It worked great for the open area of the house, but it did get a bit cool in the bedrooms and bath when the doors were shut.In a open garage with a ceiling fan to circulate the heat,it should work very well.In a shop,I would size the unit larger than for an equivalent house for quicker recovery after t-stat is turned up and after doors are opened and closed.
