I'm wondering if there are any largely stocked hand tool stores in southern california? Some place where I could go and see the tools before buying them online? Are there ever any hand tool trade shows?

I was going to start a thread on this same thing, but searched and found this. Does anyone know of good stores in So Cal area?

I know of Ken's Tools in Riverside (which does not have a website btw)

Colton Truck Supply has SK, but not much else in the line of tools.

White Cap L.A. and Ontario have Proto, but limited.

Anything like Epsteins?

Thanks.

Try McFadden Dales, they sell SK... honestly would want to know where I can buy tools too. Everything is so hidden. Graingers pricing is horrible and I've never been to a Fastenal.

Fastenal has like 3 wrenches and 4 sockets- but they did have Metabo grinders last time I was there. Grainger is difficult to deal with as well. I would think being by LA something is out there...

I order online most of the time. I'll buy Kobalt stuff if I desperately need a socket or two. Finding anything quality anymore sold in stores is tough.

McFadden Dales in Anaheim/Fullerton is an industrial hardware store, and they do have a partial wall of SK behind the counter and some tools mixed in the aisles, its not a place I would ever go to buy tools unless I knew they had something I specifically wanted and nobody else had it and I wasn't willing to wait on shipping.

There are a number of industrial tool suppliers, but ZERO of them cater to end users instead of companies. They are like Graingers, but more tool oriented. Some CarQuest stores have a bit more tools than others, but not usually out for customer view.

A couple of the swap meets have vendors with a fair amount of tools, but who is where with what changes over time and I haven't been in six months.

cbracer, your post gave part of the reason why you can't find any well-stocked tool stores oriented toward non-professional consumers

"Some place where I could go and see the tools before buying them online?"

Retail outlets rightfully dislike being showrooms for internet and catalog dealers. Of course, people do it. Heck, I've done it for years but as more and more local specialty retailers disappear and the only alternative is the internet it means we have to really plan ahead, wait for our purchases to arrive or if we really need it now, often have to pay twice--once with time to find a local place that has what we need and again with very high prices that some places demand to stock specialty items.

If you do find a specialty retailer you like, try to support them by buying items that they can make some real money on to stay in business.
