Well, diggin out a broken drill bit from a hole isn't always an awesome experience.
Well that's why I said for less demanding or less important jobs. But yeah I couldn't agree more, definitely watch out for cheap and brittle. Well at least in any application where you can't just move on and drill the hole in slightly different location.

Not all cheap drills bits are brittle however, some just have a lower tungsten alloy and less red hardness, but are otherwise reasonably tough.

Dewalt Pilot point bits are amazing in hand drills. 29 piece 60$. Stay sharp for a LONG time if kept cool and you use some astro glide!

This is what I use cheap and quality made like you want. I had a wrought iron gate made I spent over $100 at home depot on drill bits they did not last long. I ordered these and drilled 3/8 holes for carriage bolts with no problem. Dont cant remember the thickness of the wrought iron on my gate but it is not thin.

That's an interesting shank design on that set. Is it just for convenience of not having to adjust the chuck very far when swapping bits. Or does it serve some other purpose?

The shanks on those bits should be .300” OD.for a speed chuck.
I have some that are aircraft surplus that were resharpened but they cut good.
