I would love to see pictures of the setups people have for their lathe, mill, etc.
I am getting ready to move all my stuff to my new garage and would like some inspiration.

Have fun setting yours up!

I need to do some occasional machining and luckily I have my grandpa's old atlas 12" lathe, which helps a lot, plus it puts a smile on my face when I think of all the good times we had together in the shop before he passed many years ago. I updated it with QCTP after this picture was taken and I highly recommend spending the cash. I built a base that matches the rest of the place. Tooling and some shorter stock store in the drawers.

Longer stock stores in the bulk area in the bottom of the same cabinet. Eave trough downspout tubes were cut to divide up the area.

After getting a smaller benchtop drill press, I converted my larger press to be a light duty vertical mill and it does fine for the plastics and aluminum that I work with.

Here’s a pic. of my Mill.
It’s a Comet with a Bridgeport head. I added the DRO, removed the collet rack and put a paper towel holder in it’s place, added a trash can on the right, it hangs on the column. Made my own power draw bar, and I also came up with the skirt that keeps about 99 percent of the chips off the ways.

With 11 spindles, some fabrication and welding equipment I wouldn’t really call it a hobby machine shop. It’s more like an adult day care center, it gives me a place to go and keeps me out of trouble ( on most days).

How do you like that Broken Arm Drill Press? I almost bought one just like that.

That drill press is a Do All DTR28 and it is a great machine.
The spindle is 3 HP and the head can be raised and lowered or positioned anywhere on the table. It has a tapping function making it a breeze to drill and tap holes. The machine weighs about 2500#s and you will never hear it chatter.

It was made by FFI in portugal and badged by Do All and Rockwell although the Do All is the most commonly found. If you ever find one and are in a position to buy it, don't pass on it.

CalandRod, did you get all your stuff moved? Interested to see what your layout looks like.

Well technically it is moved in now. It’s not exactly setup yet haha. I’m still working on getting power to everything. And I’d like to paint before I push everything into their final positions. That’s half the garage. The other side is still stacked full. I had to make room on one side so I had some space to work.

The mini-mills and mini-lathes are a joke unless you are going to stick with aluminum and plastic. The drivetrains are plastic and the gears brrak/wear out.

How is it looking in late June?
@67CarGuy @jarhead Thanks for checking in! Ya it’s definitely been a busy summer. Crazy to think how much time has flown by. It’s definitely in a much better place but it just seems like there is never ending projects. All the sheetrock and paint is finished. I had to use a lot of kilz on those walls. Ceiling is also finished but hard to see from here. Everything is in a good spot but I still need to get rid of some extra junk I have lying around.
