Any idea about this 150lb+ vise???

Anyone have any info on this vise? The seller says that it is over 150lbs and made in the 1920's sometime. Comes with the table it is attached to also for $150.

What say everyone???

Looks broken and repaired. I am thinking the bracket down the side is not stock. If you look behind and in front of the bracket there seems to be a crack/separation. Looks like a u-shaped bracket was bolted to fix the broken slide/support. Probably why the price is reasonable. Table may be worth 100 though.

I guess I am more curious about the 4 bolts going down the side of the vise. Is that the way it was made or has it been repaired or something?

Not too sure about the steel bar bolted on the sides? Not sure that's original.

Is the vise broke? whats the deal on the bolted strap? I've never seen a vise with a bolted reinforcement on it that wasn't broken.

I see a crack on the base shoulder. The bolts hold the two pieces together. Definitely a repair and not original.

It appears to be a Chas Parker 79X. Seller says he believes it was repaired in 1959 for what that is worth. I asked for some better pics of the both sides and the repaired area.

Not the same vise at all. The first is a stationary bench vise. Very different vises due to the base and jaws.

The vise is badly broken and clumsily repaired, it has very little value to a collector.

It may work OK as a vise if you are going to keep it.

The bench, however, is a prize.

those legs are hot in the antique "steampunk" world

and it looks like some sturdy wood.

Buy the bench and get the vise for cheap.

Here are some pics of an undamaged one. And another vote for buying the bench. Vise is already broken you could use it as is. Just dont have unrealistic expectations of it not failing. That is a lot of metal.

There is a salvage yard near here that has table legs like that in the 6-900 dollar range. The table with a solid top would be over a thousand.

Steampunk is not antique. I'd say it fits more in the "vintage industrial" category. Hipsters tend to have more money than "steampunk" enthusiasts ,and yes the bench is worth the assking price IMO.
