Any idea how this comes apart?

I picked up an old, working Borg bathroom scale from someone throwing it away. I figured I could use it around the garage. I have so far, but I thought about taking it apart and cleaning it up, only I can't seem to figure it out.

I have taken the vinyl covering that was cracked off the top and I even removed one of the feet to see what was behind it. I see some small slivers of different colored metal but it seem flush. I assume that was how the top and feet attached to the body. I can't find any visible fasteners, rivets or spot welds anywhere else. The last picture shows the only part that even looks accessible, near the four corners of the scale under the top piece in the side of the bottom piece. I've tried pushing and pulling with small needle nose pliers, picks, etc. and nothing seems to move. I didn't find anything useful with an internet search either. Anyone have any ideas?

That slot in the "foot" looks like a coin would fit in there to turn it. Like a Dzus fastener.

those are tab-in-slot retainers. Basically, the tab fits through the slot and then is upset, twisted or deformed to lock it together. The only sure way to break them is to grind the tab until it frees. But, then, you will have to get creative to reassemble it.

This is what I was afraid of. Once assembled it was never meant to come apart.

Seeing that those tabs seem to "rest" in a depression in the sheet metal makes me think they are held in place by internal pressure. I'd try using pliers to turn them parallel to the slots. Just a guess, don't blame me if you break them.

The tabs are part of the bottom assembly. The slots are part of the top. Is it possible tp get something up under the top to pry it away sideways from the bottom until the tabs clear the slots? You will probably only need to do two on the same side, the other two will slide out once the tension is removed from the assembly.
