got a steal on this at auction, I plan to use the generator head for a project. Just curious what this would/could have been setup to power? Any ideas?

Looks like a test rig for running (or testing) euro-spec equipment in the US prior to shipping overseas. Or for permanent installation to operate such equipment here. It operates on 208~230 or 460 3ph 60Hz
And produces 380V 3ph 50Hz
I’ve seen similar units used to power a couple of very old German made lathes.

(Related to why it was a “steal”, probably)

at $150, I figure there's no way to lose. has a dial switch on it to select 219/380, 120/208, 120/240, and 120 output.

That’s a “you ****!” For sure.
That range of output voltages is surprising... kind of curious about that. all at 50Hz though. I guess you could change the sheaves to turn it a bit faster.
Anyway, that 1800 rpm TEFC 50hp motor is worth several times your You-**** price.

In 1987 or so my employer in San Diego needed a large quantity of 50 Hz power for a system they would be shipping to England. When the Facility Manager asked my opinion on how to get the 50 Hz power, I suggested he rent a diesel powered generator set, de rate it 25%, and adjust the governor.

No, I didn't get the recognition, like a good manager he took all the credit.

Yeah, test rig for the odd ball stuff some manufacturer was building.
As far as the pulley size change, check Marathon's website PDF's to see if that model can be sped up to 60hz. Some can't.
BTW, if indeed it can be sped up to 60hz, then for the price you paid - YOU ****!!!!!!!!
