today and few weeks ago that i had see my masterforce bottom box got moved and fell down when someone hit something and all drawers get pop out then fell down... TWICE!!!! i had fed-up!! so i am considering about put heavy metal sheet in bottom of box?? or bring out one of retired tool cart as MSC4 (matco box) to switch it. OR search a USED craftsman bottom box with griplatch drawers to prevent the drawers pop out???

Anyone has a suggestion or idea??

I already had "bowling alley woods" on top of bottom box as my workstation but it dont help.... so i needs to stop from it get other fall down by stupid person to touch it!!!

i has been work a lot and use it a lot... it do hold most of very common tools that i am use it everyday...

Probably more money than you want to spend, but the Craftsman Professional 36" bottom is $875 right now. 7 drawers, 200 lbs. per drawer.

You shouldnt have to buy a new box because your coworkers are asses. Might need to lock it up anytime you walk away. Are the slides really that smooth that the slightest movement opens them?

Wheels are recessed back, and its not very deep for how tall it is, not very stable, but somebody must be acting very careless to tip it over. I would tighten down that loose nut and make it clear it better not get dumped over a third time.

Lock the drawers closed.

or

Put some wheelie bars on the front that stick out about 3" and almost touch the ground.

or

Replace the wheels on one end with legs so one end needs to be lifted to move it.

Take off 2 end wheels then bolt a piece of flat steel bar, that sticks out front and back about 3". Then weld a couple legs on the bottom of the steel. It adds front and back stability and makes it harder to move.

Or reposition it somewhere where it's boxed in, and out of the way.

i bought it for 300 dollars on sale at menards it was 399.99 dollars as retails price... i made it to be my MAIN tool cart not toolbox... the drawer layouts are perfect for me.... but just stupid detents are get worn out and i had flip the detents... i am wish it has griplatch so it will stay closed like i has top chest craftsman 40" griplatch drawers...

i would rather to let masterforce box fell down than my matco MSC12 or almost buy the KSC46 to fall down and damages on it....

I had a Cornwell toolcart that did that. Every time it was moved the drawers would open. Solved it by attaching magnets from an old computer hard drive to the back of each drawer.

With our top-heavy server racks here at work we have an L-shaped piece of 1/4 thick sheet metal on all 4 sides at the bottom of the rack. They are mounted so there is about 1/4" - 1/2" space between the bottom of the plate, and the floor. This still allows the server rack to be moved on the casters, but if you push too much and it starts to tip the plates contact the floor and stop the forward motion and keep the rack from tipping further and falling over.

Just an idea.

Patrick makes a good point... my sever racks at home have pivot-out legs to prevent tipping when I need to slide something heavy (like a 2U UPS) out of the rack. Not sure where to buy them separately or how you'd mount them, but the idea is good. But in your case, the idiot would pivot the legs in before moving it and still tip it over. And anything that sticks out from under the cabinet is going to be a trip hazard.

My main tool box is a tall Stanley Vidmar cabinet (5 feet or so tall) with latching drawers and large locking casters. To open a drawer, there is a small latch off to the side of each drawer that you push up while you pull. One handed operation, the smoothest slides you will ever feel, the nicest lock you will ever use unlocks everything, and if I want to put something heavy in the box there is no worries of the drawers deforming. New they are thousands, but are often at auctions or on Craigs. I buy when they get below $500 each, bought my main one for ~$200 actually, and are the single best investment Ive ever made. The only drawback - the cabinet alone for my main box weighs ~400 lbs empty. I guestimate I easily have more than a ton (2000 US pounds) of weight in a few though.

You can make a frame of angle iron the size of the box base and attach the casters to this instead, In fact, increase the footprint a bit more and move the casters as far outboard as possible. You can offset the casters only toward the front of the box by three inches or so and it will be far more stable. Add magnetic catches of some type to the drawers to keep them closed.

An idea... ??? Try taking the casters off of the front of the box and replacing with an extra washer or two under them. This will tilt the box back a little bit and keep the drawers from rolling out as easy.


I like the magnet idea as well.

Have any old disc brakes laying around? If you have a few small ones that would fit under the box you might be able to bolt them in between the two rear casters as counterweight for when the drawer are open.

The washer idea is probably a lot easier though.


As far as uneven floors go, I was thinking about getting some cushiony but tough rubber pad to stick in between the casters and box. This might act as mini shock absorbers, and compress/ decompress to match the floor better the longer the box sits in one place.

Make spacers to space it off the the floor more, and add beefier castors with shock absorbers in them like the kind Snap-On uses. That alone should add a bit of weight, and will also lighten your wallet lol.

i am wait for my tech friend who has scrap metal sheet that my work had built more space as diesel shop in past time but he has 15 feet of 1/3 inch thick metal sheet... maybe cut it to make fit under bottom box??

i love the spring loaded casters!!!! but most of casters companies want lot of money for it...

That'll probably add well over 50lbs. I would rather put all my impact sockets down there than add that much dead weight.

I would cut and drill that plate to match the castors in the front then. It would stronger than washers, and probably even things out some. Save that weight for more tools, not like you need any more with all your boxes haha.

thank you for suggestion, opinions, and advices.... i just decided to loaded the matco msc4 into my dodge ram 3500 with hard tonneau locked in... i will bring it to work tomorrow early morning to swap it and make it work... that masterforce box are awesome and i has been use it a lot!!! but i just got tired to clean the mess up after it got fell down twice row in three weeks... so enough is enough..
