Any issue with reusing pavers for new patio

Not directly garage related, but has anyone ever redone a paver patio and reused the old pavers?

Me and the girlfriend have a house with a small rectangular paver patio. Maybe 15' x 25'. They're not natural stone. They're brick shape and size and I'm guessing they're concrete. Its very old, dirty, and has settleing / tree root isses. But the pavers themeselves look to be in very good shape. No cracked or broken pavers and nothing really wrong with them.

We thought we would pull the pavers, clean, etch and stain them, and then put them back down on a new base of compacted sand and gravel.

I searched the net and don't see many people doing this. I don't want to pull up and trash perfectly good pavers. Seems like a waste.

Any isses doing it this way?

If the bricks seem OK and you like the style, re use!

Still have to clean them though....

Can't see any reason why not. I'd do the same if I liked the way they look still.

Nothing is really different regarding reusing them vs. leaving them as they are other than they will be cleaned up and on a nice, new level base.

You do not have to spend a lot of time cleaning the pavers, just knock the mud off the sides and bottom with a hand trowel. Prepare your base, (Verry Important) 4" Compacted of 3/4" stone then screet 1" of concrete sand on top of the compacted stone, and lay the pavers. For best results compact the pavers in the sand bed and then sweep remaining concrete sand into the voids between the pavers. THEN I wood ACID wash the pavers with a scrub brush and last, stain.

This is a great project. Couple things to consider. If you plan to acid stain you do not want to etch them as the "etching" will kill free lime that you want to color.
Not all pavers will acid-stain no matter what you do. You can try one paver and see if it will take.

If not, try this method:

Pressure wash them, stain using a non-acid stain and seal.
