How Leatherman owners do we have here? I used my boss's a few days ago and realized it would be a handy tool to have. What models do you guys have/recommend?

I have the same two ... the PST and the Micra ... I use the Micra almost everyday for something ...
I have a Leatherman WAVE. It was purchased at Costco about three years ago and came with a mini maglite. I think its a great tool, but I did break the small "eye glass" screwdriver and have yet to get it replaced. I replaced the Cordura nylon case with a Kabar leather sheath from Tomars Kabars on Ebay.
I like the ability to open the knife from the folded position and that the handle edges are are rolled back so they don't dig into your skin when using the pliers.
I keep mine in my truck glove box.

Too funny! Yeah, the scissors are surprisingly useful on the Micra...
The PST was apparently issued with a leather case as that is what mine has. Are they all Cordura now?!
The ability to access the tools from the folded position is an undeniable design improvement. Likewise the rounded edges, since the PST does dig into the skin...
I used mine to retrieve some well-inhaled fish hooks on an ice-fishing excursion just last week. Repaired my sunglasses with that little screwdriver on the same trip!

Another thumbs up for the Micra. I put mine on my keychain as an after thought and am surprised how many times a day I use either the scissors or the small blade. I have the larger Leatherman too but don't carry it as often as the Micra.

I got hooked on the Leatherman in the Navy, where I carried mine everyday. I replaced it with a Leatherman Crunch, and while that is a really cool tool, it is not as user-friendly as the original. I still carry it for work, but do not use it nearly as often as I used to. I just picked up a knife/micra combo for cheap @ Target. I also carry a Swiss Army knife by Wenger.
I keep cheap ones in each of the cars, wife has a micra on her keychain, and I keep a Gerber sportlite in pocket, and son has a cheapo with a led light.
Friend of mine carries a set of Channel Lock ignition wrench and a pocket screwdriver. Amazing what that combo can get get open.

I've been wearing a Leatherman Wave for a couple of years-use it several times a day,every day.I don't want to think about how many trips to a toolbox it saves me.
For the little jobs we all get into every day that we need to unscrew a couple of screws,cut open a box,cut some wire or file off a sharp edge,it's a great tool.

I have several supertool,micra,kick,plus 1 by sog....Carry one every day and use ir.Its a great convience.It doesnt replace heavy duty tools but its great for tweaking things.Keep 1 in car, 1 in camera bag, The micra will get confiscated at the airport remember to remove from key ring found out the hard way..

I've still got the Leatherman that my wife gave me 15 years ago when I started with Toronto Fire. It's on my belt every shift. Excellent multi tool, I've used it for many things it wasn't designed for and it's stood up. Can't comment on other brands, can't wear this 1 out.

I also have the Wave and it's a great tool. the only change I would make is the addition of a more useful screwdriver.

I carry a Wave on my hip at work, it's awesome because I don't have to open a tool box just to check light bulbs on a truck.

) makes one of these things, or our cousins to the South come to their senses and adopt this vastly superior fastener... I mean, a flat-tip?!
Those things should be outlawed...#1 and #2 tips, please...

I was given a leatherman i keep it around the house, but i don't carry it with me. It was old and kinda abused, i even sharpened the blade with a gatco sharpening kit, now it's sharp as a razor.
This is off topic but i ordered a nifty looking multi tool you put on your keys, and it looks like a key, thought it was cool to have and compact enough not to annoy me, it's made by Swiss+tech, order it from expedition exchange i'm actually getting it this week i ordered both models.

I have a Leatherman Wave as well and I use it atleast once everyday at work. It is great if you need to take out a few phillips or flathead screws. It is also good for cutting wire. It will cut chainlink fence and even 8 AWG stranded wire.

I've had a Leatherman since the early 1980s when they first appeared and I was in the Army. In fact I sent mine in for repair more than a few times under their 25 year warranty. Since imitation is the sincerist form of flattery, you know Leathermans are good. Some people prefer Gerbers, I prefer the Leatherman. I guess it's a loyalty issue for me. Anyway, the guys that invented the leatherman, Gore-tex, and the poncho liner should be inducted in some kind of inventors hall of fame for service to the troops.

I have had a Leatherman for over 15 years now. Eight years ago I got a Gerber and my Leatherman was put away. I keep it in my desk drawer at work. The Gerber is so much easier and more comfortable to use. I also picked up a new Schrade tough tool at an auction that I keep in my truck. All of them are decent tools, but my first choice is the Gerber.

Lots of different brands available now. Victorinox makes a real nice multi-tool. The Gerber, several different models of each and the Leatherman family of them tool.
I've used a super leatherman for several years now, I'm an airline aircraft mechanic and it gets used alot. Its about worn out, real loose, and I intend to replace it.

I have several Leatherman tools (a Wave and a Charge ALX).
I'd recommend a wave and bit-kit and possibly a "bit extender" to allow usage of regular sized insert bits.
I REALLy want a Skeletool...

Another Leatherman Super Tool user. Fathers day gift about ten years ago. On my belt every day when I'm at the ranch or recreating outdoors. Except back packing. Too heavy. Then its my Victorinox Super Tinker. I view the Swiss Army Knife as the true original multitool. I like everything about my Leatherman, except how the handles dig into my palms when squeezing the pliers.
I can't believe the Kershaw Multi Tool has not been mentioned. I have had one for over 12 years and carry it with me whenever my pants are on. The blade is serreated and it is on the outside of the knife so it dosen't have to be opened up to use. It has a small hacksaw, which I've actually used with success, and a file, which works pretty good for it's size. The tool is also needle nose locking pliers.AWSOME. I've had Leatherman's before and they are great tools, but I'd take my Kershaw any day over a Leatherman or Gerber.

My Ex gave me a Leatherman Super Tool as a spur of the moment gift about 7 years ago. I remember thinking that it looked like a cheesy gimmicky thing, as I had never seen one. I was fondly touched by the thought though, especially after I found out the price!

Thanks Honey!I have a couple of swiss army knives but they don't have have pliers and some of the blades tend to close on you when you apply a little force so I'm looking to buy a better everyday/survival multi-tool and looks like the Leatherman Wave is the most popular one here - the price is reasonable too at less than $50 with a nylon sheath.
Speaking of sheaths, does anyone make an ankle sheath for them? Unfortunately, I dress formally at work so it'd prefer to wear it in a subtle way.

I think I've had them all , and they all lose the same!! I still keep buying them. If I do manage to hang on to one for awhile I'll send it in and they send you a new one.

Its all about the Wave. I had had 2 PST IIs that I managed to lose and last time I bought a Wave. After buying it the only thing I wish I would of done is spend the extra $30 for the Ti version with the bit kit. I carry it and use it everyday.
The Wave also has both a serrated and straight blade and a saw and a ******* on 1 side diamond on the other side file on the outside which makes it very handy. Between that my 4" crescent, Craftsman LED flashlight, pen and old timer 3 blade knife I can fix most things before the other person has even found tools to do it with.
A neat trick to do once your leatherman is broken in is to grab it buy one side of it and flip it open as you pull it out.
